Across Oakland, 72% of students are low-income and 92% identify as students of color. At the start of the pandemic:
88% of low-income students* indicated they did not have a computer, internet, or both
Through our #OaklandUndivided efforts, we can confirm:
97% of our low-income students,
96% of OUSD African American students, and
97% of OUSD Latinx students now have access to a computer, internet connection, and culturally-competent tech support

#OaklandUndivided Citywide Connectivity

On Saturday, May 6, 2023 #OaklandUndivided held a Citywide Connectivity Press Conference at Bitwise in Oakland to celebrated our progress towards a more equitable Oakland and our commitment towards the goal of connecting 90% of Oakland’s 36,000 unconnected households by 2027. OHA Executive Director Patricia Wells and Deputy Mayor Dr. Kimberly Mayfield announced the deployment of universal, FREE, high-speed Wi-Fi at Oakland’s five largest public housing communities.
